In the ancient times, building strong wall around the cities was common practice. It is usually a security measure put in place against the attack of enemies and any form of intrusion. The significance of wall around a city can never be over emphasized, it is so serious that it is regarded a ridicule for any city to have wall broken down.
Bible likens anyone without self control to a city whose walls are broken down. Self control is defined as the ability to control one's desires of impulses and willpower. Christ demands self control from anyone who will be His disciple, such must be ready to subdue or discipline himself/ herself. Matt.16.24 - Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
The act of keeping self in control is very challenging, and so we require God empowered restraint, God-given desire and discipline to live right. Consequently, it is mandatory for us as Christians to surrender to God who will govern our lives as He helps us to stay within safe, reasonable bounds and the avoidance of excesses.
Prov.25.28 - He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls. As for this Bible passage, presents to us, some of God requirements from His children, but anyone who is not able to control self, cannot meet up and once this happens, such a person is out of the will of God.
